Description
The cresting rail has a pierced anthemion or honeysuckle motif, popularized by the architect Robert Adam. The beautifully fret cut perimeter with scrolls and leaf work makes for a very pleasing silhouette. The cross grained mouldings have re-entrant corners and the plate is probably Edwardian. The lower border with a central pierced foliate spray. Variants of this looking glass with the same incised etching are not yet attributable to any particular maker. The condition is excellent and the fretwork has not been broken. Of good character with original rich deep patina.
