Beautifully figured 19th Century campaign camphorwood chest / trunk

A beautifully figured 19th Century campaign camphorwood chest/trunk. Flat headed copper nails rather than brass have been used to secure the metal straps and corners. This is an unusual and visually more decorative feature than the usual brass pins. The lock and carrying handles are original. The repellent qualities for protecting the contents are well known and the more highly figured and knotty the camphorwood is, the stronger the scent, making the trunk more moth repellent.

It is a good size for both storage and use as a coffee table.
