Antique Camphor Wood Campaign Chest or Trunk

Antique Camphor Wood Campaign Chest or Trunk with rare fitted interior.

This beautifully figured brass bound military campaign trunk has an unusual hinged hasp. The interior lid with a central mirrored door flanked by paneled doors incorporating lotus carving and a void behind them for storage. The raised lid is held in place with a brass stay. The candle box has the unusual feature of a lock. The two drawers below have a removable division revealing a “secret compartment” the central tray has two pierced handle grips. The turned feet unscrew for transport. The pest repellent fragrance of camphor is present and the top is engraved with I.W initials. The brass straps are screwed rather than pinned.

I believe there is not another example currently on the market with a fitted interior.
